Alternative to municipal waste landfill

In this modern world we are focused on reducing landfill and replacing it with a more holistic approach to waste management. This includes a mix of recycling, re-using, reduction & incineration.

There is a need for incineration in cases where no other technology can provide the same complete destruction of waste.

Many pollutants and particulates can only be destroyed at temperatures in excess of 850ºC.

Why is incineration important?

In recent years we have seen an increase in fatal accidents at landfill sites around the world. In 2017, 64 people died in a major landside at a landfill in Ethiopia and again just 3 days after that tragedy, in Sri Lanka another 16 people died.

These events could have been avoided by not overfilling landfill and providing viable alternatives that quickly reduce the volume of waste at these locations.

Inciner8 Limited and our international distributors have been working closely with authorities on projects that have alleviated some of these issues.

Incineration vs landfill

With the global production of waste expected to triple by 2100 these tragic events are only going to increase. It is therefore critical that organisations such as the UN, UNOPS and other international aid agencies support the local governments in these areas and start to invest in viable alternatives to landfill.

“The biggest priority right now is the backlog of waste that is growing in many developing countries with very little infrastructure to process the waste safely and efficiently.”

This situation is leading to the illegal dumping of medical and hazardous waste as the landfill are becoming too full or charging too much to accept waste.

Incineration is the ideal short-term solution and combined with a heat recovery solution could also generate much-needed hot water or warm air to assist in overall clean-up operations.

Waste to Heat Energy

We are expert manufacturers of incinerators, and we have designed our machines to be compatible with waste-to-energy heating systems. With an ambition to support sustainability and waste management facilities to have the lowest possible impact on the environment, we manufacture a range of optional bolt-on heat exchanger equipment to harness the thermal energy generated by incineration.

We have customers currently who have worked with their waste-to-energy project management specialist to adopt this process, capture, and redistribute the heat produced by their Inciner8 machine.

Typically, with thermal heat capture in waste-to-energy systems an installation project manager can design a system to plug in our equipment sustainably powering specific local functions including,

– Heating the building on site
– Feeding a boiler system
– Providing hot water

We are proud to manufacture world-class incinerators and supportive associated equipment for waste-to-thermal heat energy systems. However, you will need to source and engage with your own local installation and engineering provider to oversee the site project overall and manage supply and connections to the heat distribution and redeployment equipment.
